Pediatric Pulpotomies
In North Dartmouth, MA

If your child is experiencing severe tooth pain or damage due to a deep cavity or injury, a pediatric pulpotomy may be just the solution to save the tooth, relieve their discomfort, and keep the baby tooth healthy.

Designed specifically for children, this treatment focuses on removing infected pulp tissue from baby (primary) teeth while preserving the healthy parts of the tooth structure. The goal is to maintain the integrity of the tooth until it naturally falls out.

At South Coast Smiles Pediatric Dentistry in Dartmouth, we know how nerve-wracking dental care can be for kids (and their parents!), so we focus on making every visit comfortable, calm, and kid-friendly. From tailored pacing to fun distraction techniques, our team is here to provide gentle, thorough care that keeps smiles healthy and happy.

The Benefits of Pediatric Pulpotomies

Pain Relief

Persistent tooth pain can make it hard for your child to eat, sleep, or focus. A pulpotomy removes the source of infection to quickly reduce discomfort and improve their quality of life.

Tooth Preservation

By preserving the natural tooth, pulpotomies maintain proper spacing for permanent teeth, ensuring better oral health and development as your child grows.

Improved Comfort and Confidence

Treating the issue early can prevent further complications and give your child the confidence of a healthy, pain-free smile. Our team’s gentle approach ensures they leave feeling reassured and supported.

What to Expect From Pediatric Pulpotomies

A Friendly Evaluation

We’ll start with an evaluation tailored for your child’s personality and needs. During the visit, we’ll use gentle words and techniques to assess the affected tooth while keeping your little one comfortable. Our team might also use kid-friendly imaging tools to confirm if a pulpotomy is the best solution. Parents are kept informed every step of the way because we believe collaboration builds trust and confidence.

The Procedure

Should a pulpotomy be necessary, we’ll carefully remove the infected pulp tissue within the tooth, leaving the healthy portion intact. We use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) as the sedation option to help ease your child’s anxiety without the need for deeper sedation. The area is then meticulously cleaned, and a medicated filling is placed to protect the tooth. To maintain the tooth’s functionality, a pre-fitted dental crown is placed over it, ensuring durability and strength until the baby tooth naturally falls out.

Aftercare Support

After the procedure, we’ll provide clear, easy-to-follow aftercare instructions to encourage smooth healing. Any discomfort post-treatment is usually mild and short-lived. You can count on our team to answer any follow-up questions and offer tips for keeping your child’s oral health on track.
